[amended for clarification]

The petition process to the House of Representatives in Australia has recently changed. Please check the Parliament of Australia website for the current guidelines.

The petition process to the Senate in Australia is similar. Again, please check the Parliament of Australia website for the current guidelines.

It is important to note that the House of Representatives DOES NOT ACCEPT ONLINE PETITIONS IN ANY FORM ... petitions must be on paper and be signed by hand.

It seems that petitions not signed by hand can be submitted to the Senate however it also seems that electronic petitions are usually not treated as a petition except in special circumstances [I'm paraphrasing ... read the website for the official guidelines]. It says on the Senate website:

Petitions that are posted and signed electronically are accepted if the Senator certifies that they have been duly posted with the text available to the signatories. In presenting an electronic petition, the Senator lodges a paper document containing the text of the petition and a list of the signatures submitted.

Of course the process is different when petitioning individuals (e.g. MPs) or companies.
