· new year, new job? ·
If you're looking for a new job in the new year in the non-profit sector, here's some places you could try:
- NGO Recruitment - specialist recruitment consultants in our industry
- Energetica sometimes have roles available - they specialise in non-profit IT and are based in Sydney
- Hays has a team of recruitment consultants that specialise in our sector, or at least they did have a year ago
- MyCareer and Seek both list non-profit jobs, however IT jobs in our sector can be difficult to come by on these websites
Any others? Please comment below.
I reckon the most successful way to find a good job is through contacts. A good way of getting more contacts is to join Social Tech. Social Tech is an informal group of non-profit web folk. We are very selective about who can join (must work at a non-profit as a web practitioner and be based in Australia) so that we are not subject to people trying to sell us services.
To join us, simply join our group on Facebook (or better - ask me to add you because one of the group Admins must approve new members anyway). Most of us are based in Sydney so we meet up for a chat about once every six weeks, however if you're based elsewhere there's nothing stopping you from meeting up with folks in your area :)
Finally, if you would like to do some volunteering this year, please take a look at my blog post from a year ago about the best places to start looking. And of course ANTaR could do with some webby volunteers too, so if you can donate some skills and time, please get in touch.

Hi there :) Love your blog and find it very useful and thought provoking. Thought I’d let you know about communityNet, a project of TRI Community Exchange, a non profit organisation based in Penrith, NSW. communityNet is a news and resources website for the sector, with a focus on Greater Western Sydney. We list employment opportunities in the NGO sector: communityNet website link
